Members of Inspiration – February 2021

Name: PJ Moffett
Age: 44
How long you have been a member at CFSC:  2 Years

How you got started at CFSC: Dr. Brian has been my chiropractor for a few years now.   I have always known about CFSC.  I was moving to Fort Mill, SC, and was looking for a change from my current Crossfit gym.   I took a free class and really enjoyed the environment.   Never looked back and so glad I made the change

Favorite CrossFit movement: Push Press, KB Swings, Rowing

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Toes to bar, Pull-ups

Favorite healthy food/meal: Turkey Meat Tacos!

Favorite part about CFSC:  I could not start this section out without giving a shout out to the 5AM Playaz’ club and Coach Buffy.   Truly love working out with this group every week.  That is not all.  I love the atmosphere at CFSC.   Everyone in this place is working hard and there is just so much support from the coaching staff to the members.   I have worked out at other gyms and sometimes there felt like there was a circle within the circle.  Truly do not feel this way about CFSC.   Just great people looking to get better every day.   In addition, a special thanks to all of the coaches at CFSC.   I appreciate any and all coaching I receive and am thankful for your support and push to work harder!

Something we don’t know about you:  I have worked in Logistics and Supply Chain for 23 years.  Much of my role has required me to travel quite a bit.   I have been to China, Korea and Taiwan a combined 10 times.   It has been an amazing journey for me in my career as I can now say I have friends in many parts of the world.   It has taught me many things about foreign culture and helped round me out as a person.  I will also tell you that I “NEVER” check any luggage when traveling.   It has been something I have perfected!   I can usually go comfortable for about 7 days without checking a bag.  Anything less is a breeze!

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it:   Crossfit is about getting out of your comfort zone.   I was a gym guy doing Chest / triceps, then back and biceps…but was not seeing any real fitness difference.   Crossfit will push you, but you have to want the change.   You have to just give it a real try and see if it is for you.  Crossfit will humble you, but it will also help you reach different milestones in your fitness journey.   The thing I love the most about Crossfit is the 1 hour at the gym is dedicated toward fitness and nothing else.   Everything in my life other than Crossfit is blocked out.   I am working on myself and getting better.

Name: Carole Ann…..almost Allen!
Age: 39
How long you have been a member at CFSC:
3.5 years

How you got started at CFSC: I was in a very very high stress career, work work work, go home, sit, sleep, not a lot of friends in Charlotte, repeat. I accidently dated this guy for one week and in that one week he took me to the CF gym uptown. It was terrifying but I was also impressed. Dumped him and found CFSC. Met with Brian. Did OnRamp with Deuce and that was that.

Favorite CrossFit movement: cleans, snatches (used to hate them but did PT with Whit), anything with abs, jump rope. I also love the rig but haven’t conquered it yet.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: overhead squats. When will I use these in real life?!?

Favorite healthy food/meal: any delicious protein be it a steak or piece of salmon with a nice starch and whatever other macro I need. I see you Buffy!

Favorite part about CFSC: going cliché here…THE PEOPLE!! Reference above when I said I didn’t have a lot of solid friends in town. Joining CFSC absolutely changed my life. I have the greatest group of friends right here pushing me, putting up with me, loving me for me, and so many great memories with more to come. Through this gym I met the love of my life Michael S. Allen!!! I have changed so much physically and mentally in the last 3.5 years that I do not even recognize myself sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, the quirks and weirdness have always been there, those are rooted deep and come from my genes. However, what I can handle now and how I handle things is very very different. If you let it, this place will change you.

Something we don’t know about you: I used to be very athletic as a kid and teenager. Played every sport. I even performed in the ProBowl in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1997 as an All-American Cheerleader. Montell Jordan was the half time performer and he sang “This is how we do it”. Super cool experience. I really love coloring. I have colored hundreds and hundreds of pages, its one of my favorite past times. I studied Interior Design in college and do not get to use those creative skills as much as I would like so coloring is my way of being creative and relaxing in the evenings.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: get off your ass and on your feet! I weighed a soaking wet 119lbs when I started CrossFit. I was “skinny fat”. Couldn’t lift anything. I lost myself in my career and had to hit restart. Show up, listen to the coaches, listen to your body, check your 15 year old ProBowl performing self at the door, and rethink what you are putting in your body. I weigh the most I have ever weighed in my life and feel the best I have ever felt with 40 approaching. Oh and take the extra classes and PT!! You got this. You might even meet the love of your life 😊
