Members of Inspiration – June 2021

Name: Bob Fredrickson
Age: 44

How long you have been a member at CFSC: Almost 2 years

How you got started at CFSC: I was tired of being a skinny fat guy. So, I asked Maureen about CrossFit and next thing I knew she was dragging me kicking and screaming to a Saturday class. I felt like I might die in the warmup. I finished the workout, which included I swear 500 wall balls, and strangers were fist bumping me.  I thought WTF is this place?

Favorite CrossFit movement: Any body weight movement (skinny guy advantage) and Deadlifts.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Double unders are my nemesis and thrusters are plain evil.

Favorite healthy food/meal: Steak and Asparagus.

Favorite part about CFSC: Having a coach teach and push you to do more.  The support of our community is amazing.  I’ve never felt judgement, which is the opposite experience at more traditional gyms.

Something we don’t know about you: Multiple ACL tears and surgeries left me with an unstable and deficient right knee. While it’s not perfect, CrossFit has made my knee stronger and I’m able to do things I couldn’t 2 years ago.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: I had the wrong impression of CrossFit. I felt like I needed to be “fit” in order to be at CrossFit. The reality is it’s a bunch of normal people just trying to be healthier. It’s the best decision I’ve made for my health.  My knee has never been better, and I’ve definitely never been fitter.

Name: Lauren Imrich
Age: 44

How long you have been a member at CFSC: One Year

How you got started at CFSC: My friend and neighbor, Maureen, had been asking Bob and me to join for a long time….Bob gave in first.  When the pandemic hit, my smaller bootcamp place closed, and I tried CrossFit.  Hated every minute and felt like a middle age fool,  but knew it was the best option because it worked me so hard. Now it’s time I get to spend with my husband doing something to better ourselves.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Squats, Lunges.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Double Unders because I keep hurting myself in an effort to try.

Favorite healthy food/meal: Chicken Curry that we make as a family.

Favorite part about CFSC: I can do my thing and not be judged.  The coaches care well beyond the class, and the people are positive and friendly.  Last year was really tough personally, and coming to the gym gave me something I could control and improve upon.  It has pushed me way outside my comfort zone in the best way possible.  I am stronger and fitter at 44 than I have ever been.

Something we don’t know about you: I am a writer and speaker on side.  I have a blog that I love to write about my family, and I do speaking engagements to help raise awareness for foster care and adoption which is my passion project.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: You will never be ready.  But if you want to be better, you have do it.  If your doctor gave you a RX, you’d take it.  This is the RX for your life that you need to choose.
