Name: Ellen Thomas (“ET”)
Age: 45
How long you have been a member at CFSC: Since CFSC opened
How you got started at CFSC: Jonathan & I started Crossfit @Peak Fitness as a Crossfit Charlotte affiliate about 10yrs ago. Once Peak Fitness shut down, we attended Crossfit @ Dawn & Dutch’s business park, until we were all introduced to Brian & Lisa at a CrossFit Christmas gathering. We all agreed to join CFSC, and kept the family together. #OG
Favorite CrossFit movement: Double Unders (surprise?)
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Snatch
Favorite healthy food/meal: Vegetables, especially from our garden.
Favorite part about CFSC: Seeing others work hard & exceed their expectations of their abilities.
Something we don’t know about you: I use to travel a lot, and have dropped into ~50 other CrossFit gyms, and have been to the CrossFit Games a few times.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: 1.) Do not cherry pick your work outs: Be sure to make it to the gym on days when the WOD includes your least favorite movements, and do the best you can do, even if you come in last. Coming in last is better than not coming in at all. 2.) Come to the gym: Be intentional about coming to the gym. Even if you are injured, there is something you can do to keep moving at the gym. Riding the bike for months on end is still better than sitting at home eating Halo Top, and having a pity party because of an injury.
Name: Jonathan Thomas (“JT)
Age: 42
How long you have been a member at CFSC: All of the years. OG. I think we are getting near a decade of Crossfit?
How you got started at CFSC: We were going to the Peak Fitness Crossfit class with others in the OG crew. Most of us kept going until we all ended up at CFSC.
Favorite CrossFit movement: Rowing
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Thruster
Favorite healthy food/meal: In my opinion any animal grilled is healthy and tasty.
Favorite part about CFSC: SO many crazy people that pay for something close to torture gathered in one place.
Something we don’t know about you: When I am working out in the back corner it is not that I am anti-social, I am constantly rehabbing. The injury list is high but not from CrossFit. Slap tears in each shoulder (Fight training recruits) 3 herniated disks (I’ve been hit by two cars and dragged by cars twice.)
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Don’t worry about throwing up high rep counts or weights until you are ready. Sacrificing safe form and pushing too hard will get you hurt and is counterproductive. Find someone that works out the same time as you that is a similar skill level. By pushing each other you can make gains at a safe pace and keep CrossFit fun.
