Members of Inspiration: April 2019

Name: Rafaela (Raf) Delgado
Age: 32
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 7yrs

How you got started at CFSC: I used to go to a regular gym, but I wouldn’t push myself and would get bored easily.
I realized I needed a program that would challenge me and that I needed ‘someone’ there pushing me to complete the workout.
CrossFit checked all those requirements, and I have coaches that encourage me and do not let me quit. Also have friends that inspire me to do better, as well as make a little competitiveness come into play J

Favorite CrossFit movement: GHDs, I love them. Rope climbs, and (don’t judge me) the airdyne lol.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: THRUSTERS! I just can not!

Favorite healthy food/meal: Mediterranean Food! Chicken kabobs and hummus is one of my favorites.

Favorite part about CFSC:
Everything. Every time I walk in here, everything else stays out the door: stress, anxiety, heartbreak, frustration, etc.
This is my happy place. The people in here are some of the nicest I have met, and always encouraging towards one another. They are really caring. They become family.
This place brings the best out in me, it pushes me to be better. Being here really makes a difference in my life, and I am sure it is the same for everyone else.

Something we don’t know about you: Ever since I was 11, I have dealt with generalized anxiety. My mind can be my enemy sometimes.  I don’t deal with it often, but when I do I work hard at not letting it disrupt my life. Going to the gym and being with all of you is one of the best therapies, for sure.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it:  Do.Not.Be.Scared.
I often hear how people are intimidated about how hard CrossFit seems and how they cannot possibly do all of that.
You are wrong. Your body can do so many amazing things, you just have to take that first step.
There are so many ways to modify all the movements and still get a wonderful workout. It all gradually strengthens your body and gets you closer to your first pull up, your first rope climb, your first handstand push up… and it is one of the greatest feelings when that happens! It can be hard, yes. But it is all worth it.
As an added bonus, you will create new friends who will encourage you and help you create a better version of yourself.
CrossFit has been one of the best decisions I have made. And 7 yrs later I enjoy it just as much.

Name: Robert Phillip ‘Rudy’ Rudisil
Age: 36
How long you have been a member at CFSC: I’m not sure; however old Kyra’s kid is… since she was pregnant when I started. 😊

How you got started at CFSC: I had previous experience with CrossFit back in 2005 when it was very underground. After college I got away from CrossFit since there were next to no boxes at the time. After years of having plateaued at the globo-gyms, Andrea suggested we try CrossFit. I told her I’d give it three months to see if it was worth it and here I am!

Favorite CrossFit movement: Clean

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Assault bike

Favorite healthy food/meal: Bourbon

Favorite part about CFSC: My favorite part about CFSC is the flexibility the coaches and space offer. There is enough room and equipment to do your own thing if for some reason you can’t do the WOD or would rather not. Not many boxes have that as an option. The members and coaches are awesome too.

Something we don’t know about you: I have a pilot’s license, but never fly because it is a logistical nightmare unless you pretty much live by an airport. So, if you own a plane, hit me up! 0:-)

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Don’t let your insecurities hold you back from changing your life. No one here will ever say a bad word about your efforts to improve yourself (and trust me if they did, we would fix them quickly and harshly). Have the courage to push yourself outside your comfort zone.

Also, understand that even if you’ve exercised your whole life, high intensity training will floor your until you get used to it. Take your time and focus on developing great fundamentals before you push the intensity and weight. No one cares how much weight you move, but we all will care if you hurt yourself because you go too hard too quickly.

After you’ve been here for a bit, it may seem that the coaches have cut you loose. They’re still keeping an eye on you, but never be shy about asking them for one on one attention during the WOD. They are always very willing and happy to help you get better.
