Name: Rob Galbraith
Age: 33
How long you have been a member at CFSC: Started in November of 2022 so going on three years now.
How you got started at CFSC: When I moved to Charlotte I had a garage gym where I did a lot of power lifting. My then girlfriend was a member of a CFSC and she would not shut up about it. Nearly every conversation ended with “So when are you going to come workout with me”. My excuse was always that I had my own gym and it was less than 100 feet away at any given time. Well, this girlfriend became my fiance and I sold my house to move in with her so I needed a new outlet. Joining CFSC was a trial, but I have not looked back. Same goes with that girlfriend I mentioned (now wife).
Favorite CrossFit movement: The obvious one is Deadlifts. If they are on the menu, I’m there. The sneaky one I love are Turkish Get Ups. Those are a total body movement that you can make as challenging as you’d like them to be.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Handstand pushups. There are a lot of difficult movements in CrossFit for someone of my size, but this one is just mean.
Favorite healthy food/meal: We don’t have it often, but I make a pretty great skirt steak with home fries during the summer when we grill. Priscilla can attest.
Favorite part about CFSC: Honestly the people I have met. I was always under the impression CrossFit was a bunch of guys in their 20’s slamming sledgehammers against truck tires in some random warehouse. When I joined I was happy to find out that that was certainly not the case, especially for the 7AM class. On a serious note, it has been an awesome experience getting to workout with people that cover every age in our 7AM class. It’s one thing to hear people talk about having a job, kids and still making time to workout in the morning before they start their day but, it is inspiring to actually see it in practice every morning!
Something we don’t know about you: The early part of my childhood was spent living in Australia! The company my dad worked for sent him that way to open up a new branch of operations so from the ages of 5-8 I lived in a small suburb outside of Sydney. Being the only one in my family at a young impressionable age and attending school, I eventually picked up an accent while living there. There are constantly family stories about how my family back here in the states could not understand a word I was saying when I first moved back.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: “Just try it once”. That’s how I feel about life in general, because you don’t know until you try. It applies so well to CrossFit as well. Whether it be signing up for your first class or watching a coach demonstrate a snatch for the first time. Sure, it might look terrifying and awful, but it might turn out that you actually like it.

Age: 31
How long you have been a member at CFSC: I joined in January 2024 — so about 6 months ago.
How you got started at CFSC: I’ve tried almost everything when it comes to weight loss and just wanting to feel more active in my daily life. One of my friends had been suggesting CrossFit for a while, so I finally gave it a shot at a gym back in Pittsburgh — but the environment didn’t really click for me. Then I moved to Charlotte 7 months ago, and one of the first things I did was look for the nearest CrossFit gym. That’s how I found CFSC. I decided to give it one more try, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve even been recommending CrossFit to my friends since — and they just recently joined their own local gyms and are loving it too!
Favorite CrossFit movement: Honestly any time we pick a barbell up and put it down — and rowing, I guess.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Burpees — always burpees. 😅
Favorite healthy food/meal: Dosa (Indian dish), I try to make a healthier version at home — it’s simple, satisfying, and reminds me of home.
Favorite part about CFSC: The coaches are one of the best parts of CFSC — they’re super knowledgeable, always paying attention to the details, and they push you in a way that feels supportive, not overwhelming. I’ve learned so much from them in just a few months, especially around form and technique. The 7am class makes it even better — everyone’s easy to talk to, fun to be around, and really encouraging and welcoming. It’s a great group to start the day with, and it makes showing up early totally worth it. And it’s been really cool to feel myself getting stronger and more confident with movements I used to avoid.
Something we don’t know about you: I’m not a morning person at all, but I still show up for 7am CrossFit. No idea how, but here we are.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Just show up. Don’t worry about keeping up — do your own thing
