Members of Inspiration – June 2024

Name: Susan Sutherland
Age: Freshly 46
How long you have been a member at CFSC: Originally came in 2013 but struggled making class times until my little started getting on the bus with the bigs in 2018. (The au pair I had in 2013 when I started now owns an affiliate in Mexico ????)

How you got started at CFSC: I needed a change from doing PT in a very small gym.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Deadlift and I miss slamballs

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Sumo deadlift high pull

Favorite healthy food/meals: Avocado toast, grilled portobello mushrooms, quinoa and black bean chili

Favorite part about CFSC: The people and challenging myself doing things there is no way I would practice or do on my own…. like anytime it says “build to heavy”.

Something we don’t know about you: I am an intuitive energy healer / channel

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Absolutely everything is scalable.  My least favorite thing at CF is the word ‘Novice’.  Understand that here Novice doesn’t have to mean “new / beginner”.  It can also mean “scales appropriately, listens to his/her body, has other fitness activities that are priorities.”

Name: Wesley Mattox
Age: 31
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 2.5 years

How you got started at CFSC: Moved from Weddington where I had been doing CrossFit for a year

Favorite CrossFit movement: Bench press if you can call it a CrossFit movement

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Overhead squat. Absolutely awful.

Favorite healthy food/meal: A peanut butter banana chocolate protein shake is an amazing way to start the day

Favorite part about CFSC: Seeing the friendly faces at 6am

Something we don’t know about you: I’m a huge stock market junkie. I stare at it all day. If you bring it up, I can talk for hours.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: It takes a long time to get better at stuff, particularly weird CrossFit moves. Just keep showing up because that’s the hardest part.
