Athlete of the Month

Members of Inspiration: March 2026

Name: Jamie Elliott
Age: 41
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 11yrs

How you got started at CFSC: When Chuck and I lived in NY I had been doing CrossFit for a little over 4 years. Chuck had tried a few different boxes when he moved here and had decided that he liked CFSC the most, so when I was finally able to move to NC with him it was natural that I came here too.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Hang power cleans and box jumps. I really enjoy endurance workouts especially when they have variations of movement. Also Tire Flips, I LOVE tire flips. We should do more of those.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: It tends to rotate. I like a movement until I just don’t. I would say at the moment barbell thrusters. There is so much potential to drop it onto my own head.

Favorite healthy food/meal: I like to eat all the things. I love roasted broccoli and spicy sweet potato hash. I also really like almond butter. This list could go on and on. I like to cook when I have the time, and like I said above I really like to eat.

Favorite part about CFSC: The people. When Chuck and I first moved here we didn’t know anyone. I still remember my first Saturday workout at this gym and being casually invited to come to breakfast after. It was a little thing but it meant a lot. I have met some of my best friends and “family” through the interactions at this gym.

Something we don’t know about you:  I’m Batman… ok I’m not.

I really have a love/hate relationship with running. CrossFit and the people who I have met there are what made me start running. I’m a social runner, I don’t care about my time at all and if you run with me, I will talk at you the almost the whole time. I love seeing my friends run farther and faster than they ever thought that they could.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Don’t be afraid to come in and try it. Everything can be modified or scaled to your abilities. It’s always amazing to see how far people change and grow while doing CrossFit. You will also meet some of the most encouraging people ever. We all cheer each other on and hold each other up. Even if you decide that it’s not for you, that’s ok. You may just meet a few new friends.

Name: Chuck Elliott
Age: 46
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 11 years (yes, I’ve basically been here since the Paleo diet was still cool).

How you got started at CFSC: Started in NY as an alternative to running. Then I got hooked and started trail running plus CrossFit.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Power Cleans.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Overhead squats. Because why balance heavy weight over your head while squatting when you could… not?

Favorite healthy food/meal: Salmon or Ribeye steak with asparagus.

Favorite part about CFSC: The 5:30 class — where the jokes fly, the laughter is loud, and for one magical hour we all forget the horrors of the workday and whatever torture the coach wrote on the whiteboard.

Something we don’t know about you: After 11 years… if there is something you don’t know, it might be because I forgot it too.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: We all started from scratch at some point — nobody’s first (or 500th something) workout was pretty. Don’t be afraid to ask a coach for help, and definitely don’t be afraid to say hello to your classmates, even if it’s day one. We look intense, but we’re friendlier than we appear. Promise.
