Members of Inspiration – May 2019

Name: Simone Gold
Age: 45
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 7 years (since it moved to the current location)

How you got started at CFSC: I have been working out all around town in different gyms, from yoga to running to boot Camp to kettlebell class, you name it I’ve done it. Sometimes my drive would be longer than the workouts itself. I wanted to be somewhere close to my home and work. One day I drove on Westinghouse Boulevard and saw a sign that CrossFit Steele Creek was relocating and so I drove by and the rest is history.

Favorite CrossFit movement: It used to be deadlift but I hurt my back a few times doing it, so now it’s anything with the kettlebell and dumbbell

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Snatches, things on the rig, since I can’t do most of them; but when I get that pull-up, everyone will know it!!

Favorite healthy food/meal: Pulled pork; zucchini noodles with shrimp

Favorite part about CFSC: As much as I like seeing my accomplishments throughout the years, I enjoy as much getting to know the other members and seeing their fitness and life journeys. I also love that the coaches get to know you and your strengths and struggles and are truly happy for you when you reach milestones.

Something we don’t know about you: I moved to Charlotte by myself almost 20 years ago. My company transferred me to their US subsidiary. This is the only company I’ve ever worked for; 9 years in Germany and 20 years in the US.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: “Never give up”. Just when you think you never get better at a movement, the coaches cue something differently and it klicks. I’m still having “aha-moments “
7 years later and it’s the greatest feeling when you accomplish something that you’ve never done before and getting the genuine excitement from everyone around you.

Name: Andrew Wiler
Age: 40
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 2.5 years

How you got started at CFSC: Simone invited me to a Super Fit competition at the gym and after seeing how people encouraged each other and pushed themselves, I wanted to be a part of it.  I joined the gym a few weeks later and was hooked.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Deadlift. I pick things up and put them down.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Rope Climbs

Favorite healthy food/meal: sweet potatoes in any form

Favorite part about CFSC: I really love the structure; going to a regular gym can get so boring. Having a prescribed workout taught by amazing coaches keeps me challenging myself and prevents me from only doing exercises that I enjoy.

Something we don’t know about you: You may know that I enjoy playing disc golf but did you know that I was a sponsored pro for 5 years? I played tournaments from FL to MA to UT. I’m no longer sponsored but still enjoy traveling to play tournaments.
Simone and I actually met playing disc golf and it’s awesome having multiple things we enjoy doing together.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: I first saw Crossfit on TV and thought to myself, “that’s something I could never do”.
But after coming to the gym and seeing all kinds of different people working out, I realized that Crossfit is for everyone. It’s fun to compete but the true benefit of Crossfit comes from giving YOUR best effort.
