Name: Nick Ford
Age: 25
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 2 years
How you got started at CFSC: I was looking for a place to get stronger, healthier, and discover what my body was truly capable of. Estevan, a long-time member, recommended CFSC, and I haven’t looked back since.
Favorite CrossFit movement: Power Clean or Snatch: they’ve taught me the most about my body. Turkish getup is an honorable mention.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: …burpees…
Favorite healthy food/meal: I make a mean ground turkey pasta sauce and spaghetti squash
Favorite part about CFSC: It’s definitely the people— coaches, members and all. The environment is encouraging and positive, and they make doing challenging things a lot more fun.
Something we don’t know about you: I’ve dug up a dead body (as part of my degree in forensic anthropology in college). Perfect for a Halloween fun fact, right?
I also have a twin!
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Believe in your ability to challenge yourself, and don’t compare your progress to others—you’re on your own journey.
Also, get in tune with your body and focus on your form, it will really pay off in the long run!
Name: Amanda Bill
Age: 29 (will hit 30 in November)
How long you have been a member at CFSC: A year and 2 months-ish
How you got started at CFSC: I stumbled upon the CrossFit Games and thought the concept was interesting. I was bored at my other gym, so I gave CrossFit a chance.
Favorite CrossFit movement: Rowing and squats (except overhead, see below)
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Overhead squats hurt my pride and running the 100m loop hurts my patience.
Favorite healthy food/meal: I eat cottage cheese with granola at least once a day.
Favorite part about CFSC: The coaches and members (especially 6am/6:30pm). I’ve laughed in almost every class I’ve attended, which is exactly the balance I need.
Something we don’t know about you: I teach economic and operational theory in college because I love to bore people.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: A win can exist without being at the top of the leaderboard. My best is not the best of those at CFSC, but the win is making the most of what I have that day. Mariah Carey said it best – “Imma do the best I can with what I got.”
