Name: Lexcen Grosshuesch
Age: 40
How long you have been a member at CFSC: A little over a year
How you got started at CFSC: We were touring houses one weekend before moving here from Texas and my best friend’s husband saw the sign and joked about finding my new CrossFit gym before even moving to the Carolinas. It made my search for a gym a lot easier once we closed on our house a month later!
Favorite CrossFit movement: Kettlebell swings, double unders and power cleans
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Burpees. I hate burpees. Or cardio. Or gymnastics.
Favorite healthy food/meal: Almost anything my husband cooks for me. I’m lazy, he works from home and I’m spoiled so I rarely cook for myself anymore. We have an orzo bowl with chicken sausage, cucumbers, basil, bell peppers, olives, mozzarella pearls and Italian dressing on rotation and I love a pasta dish with lemon butter and either salmon or cod.
Favorite part about CFSC: Again, I’m lazy so I appreciate not having to think of a workout to do. I also love the community. It’s really difficult to wake up and work out at 5am most mornings but the coaches and morning crew make it bearable. I also love switching up classes sometimes and get the chance to workout with people I don’t get to see all the time.
Something we don’t know about you: Most people know I moved from Texas last year and although I’ll always be a Texan at heart, I wasn’t born there. I was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. My parents moved me to the states when I was only 3 months old.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Once you drink the koolaid you’ll never stop…I’ve done CrossFit for over 10 years (although my skill set doesn’t reflect that number). I’ve tried taking a break or quitting multiple times. I keep coming back. There’s nothing like it. Also, second day soreness is real. Don’t take more than a day or two off if you’re sore. You can always scale a workout or modify based on how your body feels.

Age: 42
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 1.5 years
How you got started at CFSC: I was at a national chain gym (that shall remain nameless) and I wasn’t seeing results. I was also getting bored of just running. I was CrossFit curious, so I met with Brian and decided I was ready for a new challenge.
Favorite CrossFit movement: Pull ups! After watching Mr. T doing them in Rocky 3, I knew I would never be satisfied until I could do pull ups like that.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Trick question, I love every move! For real though, Overhead Squats: WTF, am I right?
Favorite healthy food/meal: If you put 2 frozen bananas, a cup of milk, and a scoop of protein powder into a blender you can almost trick yourself into thinking its dessert. Otherwise, I love a giant salad.
Favorite part about CFSC: Nobody cares how much you lift. If you show up and push yourself, everyone is really encouraging regardless of how you scale your workout.
Something we don’t know about you: I enjoy woodworking. I think it is fun to take some boards and turn it into something useful. I’m not great at it but I enjoy doing it.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: If your schedule allows, take advantage of the open gym to work on all the moves you are bad at. I used to really suck at Front Squats, I started working on them at open gym, and now I suck less!
Also with all the exercises, if you aren’t using your abs/glutes, you are probably doing it wrong.
