October 2017- Members of Inspiration

Name: John P. Fetner
Age: 34
How long you have been a member at CFSC: January of 2014.
How you got started at CFSC: I had trouble with my weight after graduating from college, fluctuating between 280 and 295 pounds.  Friends and family were getting worried about my long term health.  My friend Justin had been doing CrossFit and told me he would pay for my first month if I would try it….and here we are 3.5 years later.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Power Snatches.  Fun to say and to do.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Probably Man Makers.  Just awful.  Like Nightmare awful.
Favorite healthy food/meal: Garlic Spaghetti Squash with Chicken Sausage.  If you put in Kerrygold Butter, you can try to convince yourself it’s healthy because it’s Irish (the bastions of healthy lifestyles).
Favorite part about CFSC: Everyone always says the people… so maybe the donuts those people bring in sometimes. Big fan of donuts.
Something we don’t know about you: I was the principal bassoonist for the USC Symphony my senior year at Carolina.  Also, I secretly love Katy Perry’s early work.  (How many people are gonna see this?)
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Consistency and modifications are the key.  Get your butt in the gym and don’t overdo it.  If I can go from being winded from walking up stairs to shooting for a sub 8 mile by year end, anyone can do this.  Also, make sure to give Kyra a hard time always.

Name: Tiara Terra; “T”
Age: 23
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 4ish years
How you got started at CFSC: My mother lived next to this pretty fit old man named Burt.  I was going to a different CrossFit gym at the time and he highly recommended this one so I figured I’d give it a try.  I loved it and the coaches and never went back to my old gym!
Favorite CrossFit movement: Anything involving gymnastics (muscle ups, HSPU, etc)
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Rope climbs
Favorite healthy food/meal: Chocolate… it comes from cocoa, which is a tree, and that makes it a plant… so basically it’s a salad!

Favorite part about CFSC:
The atmosphere and the people.  Everyone is like family.
Something we don’t know about you: I showed horses up and down the east coast for 16yrs and won quite a few titles.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Listen to the coaches!  Don’t get discouraged during movements, they will come with practice/time.  Don’t worry about looking awkward in front of everyone because we have all been in the exact same place.
Ohhhh, and foam roller = friend.
