I spent 5 days last week in Chicago at the Two Brain Business Summit. It’s a meeting of the minds for gym owners and coaches. It was an amazing group of entrepreneurs and fitness coaches from all over the world. There were 400 people total in attendance from 4 continents (North America, Europe, Asia and Australia). It was a group of people that take action to grow themselves and their businesses. “Ready, Fire, Aim”, we’ll say.
Progress trumps perfection. This group didn’t make excuses. They just work to get things done. I do my best to keep my circle of friends close and avoid others negative thoughts from spending much time rattling around in my brain. The real estate up there is too valuable for those people to take up residence.
We meet people every day in the gym that want to make a change. Key word, “want”. They blame everything but themselves for their lack of success for their poor health, financial situations, employment, etc. They are usually surrounded by people that just like to complain, “Whoa is me”; always the victim, never the victor.
Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.
Who’s your 5? And what are you going to do about it if you’re unhappy with them?
I can’t remember where I heard this quote a few years ago, yet it’s something that resonated with me and to this day is always something I’ll return to, when considering the folks I surround myself with.
“The people that helped you get where you are, may not be the same people to help get you to where you want to go.”
Are you trying to accomplish big goals, however your group is pulling you down? Are there places you want to go and things you want to accomplish, but you lack the support system to take the leap? Often times, your friends will say that they want what’s “best for you”; however, their actions show they are afraid. Afraid to take action. Afraid to fail. Afraid to “look stupid”.
So, who’s your 5? And what are you going to do about it if you’re unhappy with them?
