Ozempic (and similar GLP-1) weight loss drugs seem like miracle drugs for weight loss.
Currently they are showing promise for many people.
However, if you decide to take these, there are 2 very important things you need to include;
1. Strength training-
Many on these drugs are showing loses in muscle mass, which is not the kind of weight you want to lose. Losing muscle mass as you age can lead to;
-reduced strength (difficulty climbing stairs and lifting things)
-increased risks of injury and falls
-slower metabolism
-worsening blood glucose control (increase risk of type 2 diabetes)
-decrease independence and quality of life
2. Create healthy nutrition habits-
You won’t take these medications forever. If poor eating habits and nutrition got you to this place, they will very likely take you back there when you no longer take the medication.
Improving your relationship with food, and learning better eating habits will pay great dividends in not only keeping the weight off, but also improve many other health markers.
