Name: Craig Oliver
Age: 45
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 1 year

How you got started at CFSC: Joel Taylor joined, loved it and asked me to try it.

Favorite CrossFit movement: Box Jumps. I also really enjoy the major movements like dead lift, squat, cleans, clean and jerk and bench press.

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Med Ball Cleans. Thrusters kill me too, mostly because I am not as mobile as I need to be in the front rack position.

Favorite healthy food/meal: Grilled salmon, rice and broccoli from Longhorn followed by two colossal servings of molten chocolate lava cake from Chili’s.  (Kidding about the lava cake!)

Favorite part about CFSC: Every member understands how difficult CrossFit is. If you complete an Rx workout one day and a L1 workout the next, people understand and respect that. Every member here is trying to get better at something whether that is technique, speed or strength.

Something we don’t know about you: I am from the Watermelon Capital of the world… Pageland, SC!

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Commit to 6 months or a year when you start versus just trying a few workouts. It takes time to learn the movements and adjust to the intensity of the workouts. Be consistent with the workouts each week. Listen to your body when you need a lighter workout or day off. Eat healthy foods each day. Drink plenty of water. You will feel amazing!

Name: Lacey Kastel
Age: 32
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 1 year and 10 months

How you got started at CFSC: I had a moment when I woke up one day and realized I didn’t know who I was looking at in the mirror. I lost my confidence, love and appreciation for myself. I was scrolling through Facebook and saw the “New You Challenge” ad. I immediately texted Courtney and said “Hey, we should do this!”  …I’ve been hooked ever since.

Favorite CrossFit movement: GHD’s and Cleans

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Front Squat

Favorite healthy food/meal: I looovveee avocados and Fish Tacos!

Favorite part about CFSC: CFSC is so much more than just CrossFit! You have so many other ways to get out of your comfort zone and try something new such as endurance, Yoga and getting serious about your Nutrition.

Something we don’t know about you: I did Beauty Pageants from age 5 to age 9. My talent portion was Tap Dancing and singing.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it:  “Ride Your Ride” Don’t worry if you can’t do a pull-up or climb a rope. Show up, put the work in and focus on proper technique. One day when you least expect it, the movements will start to click. Listen to your body and modify when needed. Be open minded to trying new things! You may just wake up one day and realize you really do like who you see in the mirror and you know what it means to love yourself again!
