Name: John Gonzales
Age: 31
How long you have been a member at CFSC: My wife Caroline and I started in September of 2023 so a little over a year.
How you got started at CFSC: I got into obstacle course races and got tired of programming running and lifting workouts on my own. CrossFit offered a perfect way to train for my goals!
Favorite CrossFit movement: deadlifts and rowing
Least favorite CrossFit movement: overhead squat
Favorite healthy food/meal: Buffalo shrimp in air fryer with green beans
Favorite part about CFSC: the community at this gym is incredible! It’s great that a competitive atmosphere can exist in a place where people can also encourage and push you to be better.
Something we don’t know about you: While I have several advanced degrees, I am severely dyslexic and cannot read phonetically meaning I have to hear a word before I can pronounce it.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Your body and mind are more resilient and durable than you realize. Scaling is great and appropriate to do most times but don’t be afraid to push your limits and try new things! That’s the only way to improve upon weak points.
Name: Caroline Wisse
Age: 31
How long you have been a member at CFSC: Just over a year
How you got started at CFSC: My husband, John Gonzales, and I had been considering CrossFit for a while. We both enjoy lifting and training for various competitions together, and we thought that working out with other enthusiastic people would keep us motivated. Thankfully, we were right!
Favorite CrossFit movement: Deadlifts!!
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Burpees are the worst
Favorite healthy food/meal: Crispy tofu in the air fryer and grilled zucchini
Favorite part about CFSC: I love coming in for a challenging workout, knowing that we will laugh, complain a bit, and then support each other to get through it together!
Something we don’t know about you: I play Dungeons and Dragons and have been a Dungeon Master for the same campaign for 6 years.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: To quote Finding Nemo, “Just keep swimming!” Every time we start a workout, there’s a little voice in my head that says I should quit because it’s too hard. But if you keep putting one foot in front of the other and push to do just one more rep, eventually the workout is over and you’ve made it through!
