Members of Inspiration – October 2022

Name: Casey McEown
Age: 22
How long you have been a member at CFSC: August, 2022

How you got started at CFSC: My dad!!!
Favorite CrossFit movement: Power clean! I LOVE IT. This was one of the first barbell movements I learned and I love any workouts involving it!
Least favorite CrossFit movement: The overhead squat!! I never really practice it because I hate it… guess that means I gotta do it more often though.
Favorite healthy food/meal: Tough question, I eat a lot. I really enjoy avocado toast with eggs in the morning, I have that almost every day!
Favorite part about CFSC: How welcoming everyone is! And the coaches!!! I haven’t been here for a very long time but everyone is so nice and the coaches and members are super helpful with giving me tips and helping me do so much better!
Something we don’t know about you: I have swam with sharks (no cage either), jumped off countless cliffs, backpacked through the mountains in Honduras, and I know how to play the drums and bass!
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Don’t be afraid to fail! I used to be so embarrassed when I couldn’t do certain movements but the only way to get better is to fail, try again and learn from it!

Name: Mike McEown (pronounced Mc-You-Win!)
Age: 53
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 1 year, but feels like half that.

How you got started at CFSC: Our family relocated from another part of the Charlotte area (Concord), so naturally we were looking for a fitness facility in the area. We were members at a functional fitness or boot-camp style gym and they also had a CrossFit side. I would always look over at the CrossFit gym in awe but was too scared to join. When we moved to southwest Charlotte, my wife (Kelly) and I decided to take the plunge… And I regret waiting as long as I did!
Favorite CrossFit movement: The Muscle Up. It was one of those things I would watch in awe before getting into CrossFit.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Overhead Squat. But I’m determined to make it my favorite movement! Oh, and that #%@$-ing Echo bike.
Favorite healthy food/meal: Pan seared mahi-mahi, in or out of a taco shell.
Favorite part about CFSC: Being inspired by all the amazing athletes, coaches and the wonderful people I get to interact with while I’m there.
Some things we don’t know about you: I was born and raised in the great state of North Dakota; I’ve won an Emmy; I’ve been a drummer in a rock band.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: I mentioned it above, but I really wish I had started CrossFit much earlier. Of all the different fitness methods I’ve tried in the past, I’ve not had the results like I have since I started CrossFit. I’ve been active pretty much my whole life, but I’m the strongest and the fittest I’ve ever been. I would recommend to anyone and everyone to jump into it without hesitating if your health and fitness is a priority.
