You’re in the “gap” when you’re measuring against your ideal, the future, or comparison.
You’re in the “gain” when you’re measuring backwards. The progress you’ve made.
If your goal is to lose 30 pounds and you’ve lost 10 in the first 8 weeks; but you’re complaining/mad/sad/frustrated because you’ve only lost 10#; you’re in the GAP.
That’s ok. But you can only stay there for 5 minutes.
Then, get in the GAIN. Measure your progress backwards from where you started. You lost 10 pounds in 8 weeks. Pat yourself on the back, and keep pushing forward.
You can expand this “gap” & “gain” to anything, not just your health and fitness.
People that don’t look in the rearview mirror miss a lot.
Steve Jobs said you can only connect the dots if you look behind you.
I’m guilty of this too. Spending way too much time in the gap. But I’m working on it.
What about you?
