Members of Inspiration – January 2023

Name: Mandy Piercy
Age: 45
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 8 years and 1 month

How you got started at CFSC: Back then, I had been a member of a local boxing gym and then a bootcamp.  I was looking for something more engaging and I’ve been here ever since!  In my experience, those places didn’t change things up very often.  The moods were stagnant and it seemed that the coaches and the members were just showing up and going through the motions.  CFSC is quite the opposite!  There’s never a chance to get bored.  If so, you’re doing it wrong!

Favorite CrossFit movement: Gosh, it used to be rope climbs but I haven’t been up the rope in forever!  Yikes!  Now, I’ll say that it’s probably the power clean.  This is funny because that was a movement that took me a long time to learn!  I had to see Brian for forearm pain for a while!  LOL!  We live and learn, right?

Least favorite CrossFit movement: It’s always been the overhead squat.  This one forces me to FOCUS!

Favorite healthy food/meal: I’m digging some seafood bowls lately…brown rice/quinoa/lentils, chopped greens, salsa, seafood, avocado, hot sauce.  Yum!

Favorite part about CFSC: It’s a combo of the fact that I don’t have to think about anything before I come except my outfit and the community!  It’s been said before but there’s a special allure about this place and the people it attracts!  I often leave sweaty, with a smile, and full heart!

Something we don’t know about you: I’m a theater junkie!  2023 is the first year that I’m not buying tickets in a long time!  I might have FOMO and give in but I LOVE a show!  I’m a sucker for live music too!

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Don’t compare yourself to anyone else.  Usually, we’re all doing something different and scaling at all different levels.  Also, you don’t know someone’s age, ability, whether or not they just had surgery, etc.  Just smile, do what you can, and be surprised by how much more you can do next time.  Oh yeah…consistency is EVERYTHING!

Name: Mike Campbell (aka Dad)
Age: 61
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 7 years

How you got started at CFSC: My wife Leilani was interested in joining and I told her I would join to support her.  We attended the “Couch to Crossfit” classes and I was hooked (ps….. she is too!!)

Favorite CrossFit movement: Thrusters!!  Gotta love a full body workout in one movement.  And the BIKE!!

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Squat snatch… or as I like to call it the “Elusive Snatchsquatch”.  Not seeing a need for this in my everyday life J

Favorite healthy food/meal: This may sound a little strange but I am not a foodie and would skip eating all together if I could.  Coach T has informed me that protein shakes are not real food (I disagree) so I will go with vegetarian baked ziti and salad.

Favorite part about CFSC: Well it has been said many times many ways but it is one big family.  The coaches are great with encouraging you to push yourself but always within what your body can do.  The other members are truly inspirational in their own right.  I absolutely enjoy seeing everyone excel and crush goals they have established.  I have made so many friends here and appreciate all their support.

Something we don’t know about you: I have been a vegetarian for almost 40 years and highly recommend it unless you really like food!! J

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Come with an open mind and a willingness to succeed – no excuses.  You will be surprised at all you can accomplish with the right mindset and encouragement.  Don’t try to impress anyone but yourself so start slow, scale and stay positive – remember muscle growth and body composition change is a marathon and not a sprint.  Listen to the coaches as they are invested in your health and soak in their advice.  Final Dad Advice – Age is just a number and Scaling is Cool!!
