Members of Inspiration – June 2022

Name: Hillary Hamp
Age: 31
How long you have been a member at CFSC:
It will be one year on June 18th!

How you got started at CFSC:
It was recommended by a friend. I moved to NC in January 2020 right before the pandemic, and was searching for a new routine in 2021. I told myself I would try CrossFit for at least 90 days – and it stuck!

Favorite CrossFit movement:
Rowing. I rowed crew in college, so the (relatively) shorter erg pieces in CF are usually fun for me

Least favorite CrossFit movement:
Probably power snatches, but I’m working on them!

Favorite healthy food/meal:
It’s not fancy, but plain Greek yogurt (Fage brand) with blueberries and almond butter.

Favorite part about CFSC:
Tied for coaches and community. The coaches have mastered ‘meeting you where you’re at’ while simultaneously pushing you to improve. I’ve learned so much in a year!

The community is positive, inclusive, and motivational. I would not be able to push myself so hard working out on my own. Shoutout to Jon Hayes for being welcoming and helpful when I took my very first group class last year. That inclusive spirit from so many people is a big part of what keeps me coming back.

Something we don’t know about you:
I’ve moved 6 times in the last ten years, for work and for grad school. (NYC, Michigan, New Jersey, Germany, back to Michigan, North Carolina!) This coming July will make North Carolina the longest I’ve lived in one place in a decade.

Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it:
Give yourself a timeline! If it feels very hard at first, commit that you’ll stick with it for 2, or 3, or 6 months. You don’t see changes from day to day but they accumulate over the course of a couple months, and you’ll discover the aspects of the workout that keep you coming back!
