Name: Brandon Lawrence Craig Kujawski
Age: 37
How long you have been a member at CFSC: Just over a year
How you got started at CFSC: Being busy, like all of us are, I grew frustrated with minimal results from my haphazard style of working out. I found myself wandering around the YMCA at 5:30 in the morning going from bench press to the curl machine. Not really awake enough to write down a plan ahead of time, or what I was doing while I was there. Needless to say, the results I was looking for never really came. When I saw the 60 minutes expose on Glassman, I got really intrigued and the rest is history.
Favorite CrossFit movement: The pizza game- Warmup, and the snatch for movement. The snatch is one of the movements I thought only crazy people did prior to learning how to do it.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Hearing people complain about CrossFit movements, and the Airdyne.
Favorite healthy food/meal: Grass fed Strip grilled with Zuchini, and some red wine!
Favorite part about CFSC: Kipp’s dry sense of humor, Burt’s attention to detail, Deuce’s playlists (another reason I joined), Kyra (everyone loves Kyra), being uncertain if Brian really wants us there or not, Peter’s garbage bag shirt, Corndog’s bottoms, Dawn’s honesty, Buffy’s screaming at 5:40 AM, Chuy, White Shirt Pete without his shirt, Christy’s smile, Stormcloud and Jason complaining about the movements, Ginuwine’s one hit (just kidding I have two if his albums), Heather’s social media posts.
Something we don’t know about you: I used to be a professional backup dancer. Toured with Christina A. and Tyrese a lifetime ago.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Find someone who inspires and encourages you, then hang on. I was really intimidated when I started. I did my second On Ramp during a Comp class, and watched Deuce, Josh, and Mark doing ring muscle ups, and just knew I was in the wrong place. Once I started, a couple of people put their arms around me and let me work out with them in a partner WOD and they turned into really good friends. I don’t have any good stats to share, but I have certainly improved as a person and athlete since starting a year ago.
Name: Alice Ozaroski Herald (Mrs. Dave Herald)
Age: 68
How long you have been a member at CFSC: Almost 2 years.
How you got started at CFSC: Dave has been a Crossfitter since Brian opened the doors. I came with Dave to social events and special weekend competitions; Brian was amazing, providing mods for everything I couldn’t do. When I retired, Dave pushed hard for me to give CFSC a try. I did, and I was hooked. Full confession: I still practice yoga on Tues/Thurs… it’s a great balance.
Favorite CrossFit movement: Things I can do! Run, bike, row, slam ball, kettlebell swings & sit-ups.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: SQUATS….ANYTHING WITH A SQUAT, especially Wallballs.
Favorite healthy food/meal: Fish and veggies. We eat well! Dave’s a great cook, and I’m the sous chef (ok, with a glass of wine…)
Favorite part about CFSC: CFSC pushes me to test my limits (sanely). I WILL do a strict pull up one day (Thank you Whit!)
Something we don’t know about you: 32 years as attorney at Bank of America, retiring as Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Boring lawyer….
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: “I am why God made trainers.” Nothing CrossFit is innate to me. If there is a wrong way to do any move, I will find it… just ask Burt. “Alice, I’ve never seen anyone hold a kettlebell like that.” Every instructor will see you do things right to build strength and prevent injury.
