September 2017- Members of Inspiration

Name: Tommy Morrison
Age: 52
How long you have been a member at CFSC: 2 Years 11 months
How you got started at CFSC: I turned 50 and decided it was time for a change. I saw an “On Ramp” add in local flyer and decided to check it out.
Favorite CrossFit movement: Bench Press-Although we seldom ever do them!
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Overhead Squats
Favorite healthy food/meal: Chicken and the so many ways you can prepare it and it still be relatively healthy.
Favorite part about CFSC: The People by far. All of them Coaches, Trainers and Participants. I love how everyone always encourages one another to get through the next rep or activity. It makes it so much more fun when everyone is working together.
Something we don’t know about you: Some of you know but many of you do not that I had some serious health issues back in March of 2015. I had blood clots form in both sides of my abdomen and got to spend a few days in the hospital after surgery. After being released from the hospital and the doctor’s monitoring my doctor told me to move as much as I could, but to take it slowly and listen to my body and that the recovery process would more than likely be very slow. I told him that I had been doing crossFit and wanted to get back to the “Box” but he said that I may need to reconsider doing anything too strenuous and that I could bruise easily being on “Blood Thinners”. I took 8 weeks off and decided it was time to try and get back to my 9:00 A.M. class. At first it was very tough. I had to take breaks most days just trying to do the warm up. I almost gave up and decided CrossFit was not for me but I had so much encouragement from the coaches and my friends at CFSC that I stuck it out. I am so glad I did not give up. I still have a long way to go but hopefully in another year or so I will in as good or better shape than before. I can’t even imagine what the recovery process would be like without the encouragement from everyone at CFSC.
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: Just do it and don’t judge it until you have tried it. Take it slow and learn proper form. It is a lot of fun and the people doing it with you are always so supportive.
Name: Jennifer Behr
Age: 40
How long you have been a member at CFSC: almost 1-1/2 years?
How you got started at CFSC: I was already kind of a “gym rat”, used to teach group fitness, etc., but I wanted a different kind of workout and new challenge
Favorite CrossFit movement: snatch? Not because its my best movement but because its my worst. It is so complex and there is so much to work on.
Least favorite CrossFit movement: Probably thrusters
Favorite healthy food/meal: Is bacon a health food? Does it count if I just pour the hot grease over whole wheat toast? (because I do that and its divine) All of them.
Favorite part about CFSC: The atmosphere and community
Something we don’t know about you: I have two Master’s degrees in completely unrelated fields (structural engineering and exercise science), neither of which I am utilizing at the moment. I happen to kind of like school, especially university. Perhaps if I have energy after raising 4 girls I will attempt to complete the trifecta with a third random degree…
Words of wisdom for people who are new to CrossFit or interested in trying it: For CrossFit or any activity just get up and get out the door. Just get here. That is the hardest part. Once you get here, smile and say hi to someone, and just do the work. No pressure.
